Imposter Syndrome Birthday Surprise

It's my Party, I'll Imposter Syndrome if I want to

First…. Lemme say that as often as I put myself in the center of attention, it’s a learned behavior. I started my sales career at 10 selling newspaper subscriptions and delivering them.

And you kinda learn to… get vocal.

I’m out there not because it’s where I prefer to be… it’s because it where I need to be.

And I think everyone at some point in their life.

Some Year.

Some Month.

Some Day.

Sometimes we wonder if we are doing the right thing. If we are making the difference we want to be.

And sometimes, everybody? Wonders… does my voice matter in this crowded sea of 8 billion people.

Saturday my family threw me a surprise birthday party. I walked into a room full of a hundred of my family members, gym friends, coworkers, and church family.

And as I walked around, and introduced people from communities that don't usually interact, this surprise party allowed me to hear people share stories that most people don’t get a chance to hear at their funerals.

And then, as this guy right here, Mike, was talking to me, every family member that came up. My mom, my dad, my cousin, my aunt... Mike said hello to each of my family members and told them about an occasion I had helped him. An occasion that meant a lot. And he made sure others important to me knew it. He chose to be vulnerable and to share a moment that was special to him about me.

We might cut the serious with a little laughter... and that doesn't discount the gesture.

Surprise at a Surprise Party

Ya know… I stand up in front of people and speak for a living. I go LIVE on social media every day.

I've run hundreds of webinars.

Over the years I learned attendance would vary. And I realized and became okay with the fact that… if this call helps even just one person, it was worth it. On some of the LIVEs I've conducted, I honestly wonder if even one person showed up… At which point, I smile give it all I've got, and recognize that it’s still good practice.

And yet... as much as I tell myself one person is worth it... another part of me wonders why no one showed up. Why just one person joined the room... why the emails aren't answered back, or the phone calls are ignored.

Every time we go out in the world, we're selling our self. People only buy what they value... and if they aren't buying me... am I valuable? Am I good enough to make it. To be successful.

I've been successful a lot. I've won many times. And in sales, you often hear, you're only as good as your last month.

Is that true? Am I an Imposter?

And yet, there is a room full of people who would say "No."

Surprise!

We all have a room full of people.

In life, I know that I’ve helped more than one person.

I have a lot more to do in life. I have a lot more people to help.

And if it ended tomorrow. I know I’ve helped someone. A lot of someones. And it’s a life well lived.

Thank you Mike making sure so many knew how I helped you.

I know it’s not just Mike. There is a room full of people. Even if that Zoom room is empty tomorrow.

Maybe YOU will be in the Zoom Room one day. Maybe we can help each other B'MORE DAILY.

Take a look at your life. If your purpose in life was to make the life of one other person better, who was it?

When you help someone you become a mentor, a leader.

If you could make the life of one person better each day, who will it be today?

There is no way anyone can accuse you of being an imposter when you are intentional about helping improve the life of one other person… today.

Each day. Every Day.

B’More Intentional today
